The scandal of the ‘sheltered care’ nursing homes is finally getting some media attention. The problem in Illinois (and in many other states) is the marriage between the political establishment and the leaders of the industry. It is suggested that the regulation of the NURSING HOMES is not only lax, but corrupt. The Philip Esformes case, while having a situs in Florida, gave an intimate view of the industry, including the massive payoffs to public officials that fueled the operation of facilities. The lack of media attention is also extremely interesting – including the benign manner that the 23 deaths are reported.
